Rhyolite was a small bustling town in Nevada during the gold and silver rush. After the mines in the town closed down, the people left and nature took over. Over time, buildings were torn down and succumbed to nature. All that is left now in this national park is just the ruins and memories of what once was. Shot on large format, this image has a ton of deep blacks and bright whites. This is part of an ongoing series of pictures from Rhyolite.

The two pillars of bricks and the corner of a wall are all that remain of the entrance to the building on main street in downtown Rhyolite. Once a bustling town, now there is not much but stones and markers of what once was. The streets are now empty, but provide a glimpse of how large the town was.
Over a century ago, someone carefully cast these brick and then laid them into formation along with all the others that composed the entire building. Now they are destined to wait until they are forced to move again, standing up to the elements as best they can. In the distance the entire valley can be seen, as it has been for centuries.

This image was captured on large format film, using Provia 100F. It is a several hour exposure, which results in the stars rotating though the frame as the earth revolves on its axis. The green cast is from a single light near the train station of the town, around a mile away from this spot. However, because of the long exposure, the very small amount of light added up into the exposure here.

Choose below from metal print sizes, listed in width x height. All prints are personally inspected by the artist and custom signed, if chosen. They are numbered on the back, and come with a certificate of authenticity. The prints are ready to hang, and come with a couple of hanging options. Custom sizes not listed here are available, as are other mediums. Please contact us for details.
