A rite of passage for every Londoner, the tube is a vital transit link across the city. This is a unique perspective on a common sight in London. I shot this on 35mm film using a swing-lens panoramic camera. The curved lines on the left, caused by the wide angle lens, morph to straight lines on the right due to the rotation of the lens during the exposure. The strong leading lines lead you farther into the photo and add tension. Though the escalators descend downward at a significant angle, the camera was tilted to match the angle, causing the riders, who are standing straight up, to look like they are all leaning.
Shot in London, England, at an entrance to the London Underground on 35mm film using a swing-lens panoramic camera. Scanned using top of the line drum scanner, to preserve detail. This print is certainly an eye catcher, and I always get caught in its seemingly endless lines. This slice of life encapsulates what its like to be in London, as you examine each person riding the escalator. This print deserves to have a large spot on your wall.
